NFL Week 13: The best picks for Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears

The Bears host the Lions at Soldier Field in Detroit on Sunday, December 6. Both teams have had a poor start to the season and will be hoping to break their current losing streak and turn their fortunes around in this clash. The Lions sit at the bottom of the standings in the NFC North Division while the Bears are above them, having won one extra game. The Bears are on a five-game losing streak and were thoroughly beaten away at the Packers last week. They’re still a 5.5 point favourite for this game, however, and will need a win to have any hope of saving their season.

Last Meeting

These two teams last faced each other on September 13, 2020, of this season. That game saw the Lions initially take a 17 point lead in the third quarter, with a win looking safe for the home site.  However, the fourth quarter saw Chicago score 20 unanswered points as Quarterback Trubisky made his passes count when it mattered the most. The Bears came back from behind to win the game 27-23.

Although Detroit managed to drive to Chicago’s 16 on final possession, rookie running back D’Andre Swift was unlucky to drop a pass in the endzone that would have seen Detroit hold onto their win. Trubisky was the star of the show for the Bears as they came back to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The Quarterback didn’t make the best start to the game, misplacing many of his throws, but he eventually found his targets late on.

Prediction

Both teams come into this game in terrible form, with the Lions recently parting ways with head coach Matt Patricia and their general manager Bob Quinn last week after an awful three seasons in charge. The final straw was the Detroit Lions losing 41-25 on Thanksgiving Day. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has been named as interim coach and will be hoping to turn the team’s fortunes around as they travel to Detroit this Sunday.

While the Lions have been shocking this season, the Bears haven’t fared much better. They’re currently on a five-game losing streak and were recently thoroughly beaten by the Packers. Bears Quarterback Trubisky is expected to start again over Nick Foles, and while he was an instrument in the Bears’ success the last time these two sides met, his recent performances have been lacking.

The sportsbooks are favouring the home side here, with the Chicago Bears tipped to get the win over the visiting Lions. Bears are a 5.5 point favourite, and judging by previous meetings between the two sides, you would have to give the edge to the bears. However, the fact that the Lions have a new coach may motivate them and help them climb out of the rut they’ve found themselves in. We think that ultimately, the defence of the Bears will decide the game, although it will be a close one between two sides desperate to win.

Our Prediction: Bears 20, Lions 17
